8 tips for (even more) safe shopping

Protect yourself and be respectful to others. Here are our short tips on how to approach shopping in the time of COVID-19 safely, at ease and with no bad mood, even in big shopping centres.

The coronavirus is here and it does not show any sign of retreat. In the past half year we’ve learned what it means to live in the so called “new reality”, even when it comes to shopping. Some of us have restricted visits to shops to the minimum weekly essential shopping, some of us have shifted our shopping online. There is no more hanging out while shopping, no more fun times while trying out piles of clothes with friends in shops. Even clothes have to go “to quarantine” after fittings and maybe you don’t find the size or item you are looking for just because somebody tried it out a few minutes ago. Masks and hand sanitizers are always with us every time we leave the house. And, let’s admit it, every time we hear a sneeze, we quietly check if it happened at least 2 m away.

If you would have read this at the beginning of the year, you would have laughed about it. But today this is your daily life. To make your shopping at Supernova as smooth as it can get, here are your new game rules. This are not firm restrictions (in most cases, anyway) or commands. But we believe that when we accept these few new habits, shopping will get more pleasant for all.

  1. WORD OF THE YEAR: SOCIAL DISTANCING
We hear about it since it all began and we all know what it is about. But just in case if you recently woke up from under a rock, let’s remind: to make shopping safe you should keep at least 1,5 m distance from other people in all areas of the shopping centre. To get an idea, this is the length of a regular shopping cart! So if somebody is standing in front of the cookies you would like to get or is looking at the shoes you are interested in, respect the social distance, wait or circle back to the aisle. You can also just ask for some space. Kindness goes a long way!
  2. HAND SANITIZERS ARE HERE FOR YOU TO USE IT
In all areas of Supernova shopping centres and at shop entrances, there are many hand sanitizing stations for your convenience. Every time you enter the shopping centre or a shop, please disinfect your hands. This is the only way we can guarantee you will touch items in shops with clean, germs and virus free hands. It goes without saying that you should thoroughly wash your hands with soap before you leave the toilets, right?
  3. SNEEZE AND COUGH INTO YOUR ELBOW
If you are already sneezing and coughing at home and you have a feeling you are going to “catch a cold”, please stay at home and postpone your shopping at Supernova. However, sometimes it happens that we have to sneeze. Even when we are completely healthy. In such case, please block your sneeze with your elbow, not your hand as your grandma taught you to. Remember, you have just disinfected your hands for shopping. Want to do something really cool? Transform your elbow sneeze into a dab – you know, the way athletes celebrate their success.
  4. TO HAVE A MASK IS NOT ENOUGH. YOU HAVE TO USE IT!
You can complain all you want, but face masks are obligatory when entering any Supernova shopping centre. This does not mean, that is enough to carry one with you, maybe in your handbag, hanging from your wrist or even loosely dangling from one ear. You have to use your mask properly, covering your mouth and nose. A warm advice – once the mask is on your face, do not touch it. You do not want the virus to get anywhere near the “entrance door”.
  5. SAY HELLO FROM A DISTANCE
We know you want to hug, kiss and chat for a long time with friends you have not seen in a while. Believe us, we would like you to, too. But in this situation skip the close greetings and wave from a distance instead. If you really want to exchange a few words, go to one of our coffee shops for a quick coffee, where you can hang out for a bit from a safe distance. However, the narrow aisles in shops are not a good spot for long chats.
  6. SHOP MOSTLY WITH YOUR EYES, NOT YOUR HANDS
We strongly agree, informed shopping is smart shopping. But in these unusual times it is better to keep your hands to yourself. This means that you should primarily use your eyes to choose and touch just the things you are going to buy. Try to avoid touching everything in the shop. You can’t go by without taking a closer look and reading declarations? Try looking it up online and make your choice in advance.
  7. FITTING ROOMS ARE CLOSED, WHAT NOW?
We know you get annoyed when you see the sign in shops. Fitting rooms closed due to COVID-19. At first it looks like a tragedy. But in the end you will realize this is not that bad at all. Shops where you can’t try your clothes in in-house fitting rooms, usually adopt a more generous return policy, making it easier to return the things you don’t like or that don’t fit you. This way you can try new fashion styles in the comfort of your home, take your time and also see if the new fashion pieces go well with your wardrobe. In the end you will realize that shopping this way is even more pleasant and less stressful. Just make sure to check the return policy before making the purchase.
  8. USE YOUR SHOPPING BAG
It is no doubt that sustainable reusable bags are super cool. They help us safeguard the environment and in these times, they also help us safeguard our health, as we use our own bag and we can wash it after. We also find it very useful in shops where due to safety there are no shopping baskets available. Simply use your bag to carry things to the check-out.
